米大統領名が浮かぶ詩、教科書から削除 パキスタン
イスラマバード──パキスタンの教育省は６日、同国の英語教科書が採用している「詩」の各行の先頭文字をつなげると「ジョージ・Ｗ・ブッシュ大統領」となるなどの理由で、この詩を教科書から削除するよう命令した。
パキスタンの英語の教科書に載った問題の詩の全文はこういうものらしい。

Ready to meet every challenge with care,
Easy in manner, yet solid as steel,
Strong in his faith, refreshingly real.
Isn't afraid to propose what is bold,
Doesn't conform to the usual mould,

Even when doubted for why he would fight,

確かに頭文字全部繋げると"President George W Bush"になる。
でもこの記事でおもしろいポイントは、詩の頭文字を繋げるとブッシュ大統領になるというところより、この作者不明の詩はインターネットから拾って来たものだったというところだろう。
オルタナティブな出所の詩を教科書に載せるとはパキスタン恐るべし。先進国ではこうはいかないだろう。でも落ちてる物を拾って食べると毒に当たるという法則からは逃れられないのであった。
